Tips for Better Test Taking

Have you experience uneasiness before you take your final examination in school or in board examination? This uneasiness might greatly affect your performance in those examination. To avoid such thing, I have some tips for you. Here are some important things:

1. PREPARATION

Arrive early for the tests

Bring all the materials you will need such as pencils and pens, a calculator, a dictionary, and a watch. These things would help you focus on your tasks without any alteration.

Be comfortable but alert

Choose a seat where you feel you are comfortable. You must make sure that you have enough area to work.

Stay relaxed and confident

Remind yourself that you are ready to undergo the examination because you prepared a lot and that you are going to do well. If you find yourself anxious, you should take several slow and deep breaths to relax.

2. TEST TAKING

Read the direction carefully and scan carefully the pages of the test papers for an overview

Many students fail in the examination because they do not pay attention to the given directions. It is also important to scan first the test papers because some of its pages are omitted or some of the items is missing.

Answer questions in a strategic order

Take the easy question first

This will help you minimize your time and it will build your confidence since you are sure that you will gain points.

Answer difficult questions later

If the test is objective, then, eliminate first those answers you know to be wrong. On the other hand if the test is subjective questions like essay, outline your answer first and sequence the order of your arguments.

Review

Review your test to make sure that you have answered all the questions. You must check you grammar, spelling, punctuations and decimal points.

Do not “second-guess” yourself and chance your original answer.

Changing of answers often lead to a wrong answer as researches had found out. You should only change your answer if you originally misread them.
